Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park in Mission
Northern
Beardless-Tyrannulet, Clay-colored Robin, and Gray Hawk are nesting.
These three birds are also at neighboring Anzalduas County Park.
Back at Bentsen, Common Pauraque and Eastern Screech-Owls are vocal
in the evenings, but Elf Owl and Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl are getting
harder to even hear. Clay-colored Robin is widely distributed in the
Lower Rio Grande Valley, with reports from Salineno to Brownsville
in recent weeks. Red-crowned Parrots and Green Parakeets can be seen
or heard flying above the trees anywhere in the Valley residential
areas, especially early and late in the day. One recommended site in
Weslaco is at Oklahoma and 11th street, a few blocks west of
Frontera Audubon Sanctuary. These birds are being seen about 730 AM.
A recent report from Fort Brown in Brownsville included both
Red-crowned Parrots and Green Parakeets, as well as Tropical
Kingbird. In Harlingen, Pendleton Park at the intersection of Grimes
and Morgan is a good place to watch Red-crowned Parrots in the
evening.

Quinta Mazatlan grounds with a fun interpretive guide. Come discover
the immense variety of birds that exist at this urban oasis. We`ll
teach you the basics of how to enjoy birds and identify birds as we
walk along the trails. Stories will also be woven into the walk on
the natural and cultural history of the historic home build in the
1930`s. This program is for all ages. The fee is $2 for adults, $1
for children and senior citizens. Program will take place at Quinta
