Calendar of EventsNow – Oct. 27, 2006 Lenard Brown’s “Transmigrations” will be showing at the South Texas College Pecan Campus Art Gallery now through October 27, 2006. The installation consists of more than hundred prints of photographs of objects such as road signs, railroads and portraits of young men and women. The photographs are carefully transferred on to the surface of road maps. Brown’s installation questions human migration and dislocation. His prints illustrate how human migration continues, like that of organisms in the oceans and sky and how this constant travel and place of residence causes a dislocation and excludes peoples from having a connection to the larger society around them. The gallery can be found in Building B, Room 103. For gallery hours and information, please call 956-872-3473 or visit www.southtexasart.com. Gourevich is best known for his acclaimed 1998 book, We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed with Our Families, which focuses on the Rwandan Genocide of 1994, and which serves as the basis for the 2004 movie, Hotel Rwanda. He will be discussing the horrific consequences that occurred when the governmental leader of Rwanda and the majority faction within that nation undertook a murderous campaign to eliminate some 800 thousand members of its minority group, family by family. South Texas College welcomes the community to come hear this renowned author and learn more about his compelling story. The event is hosted by STC's Distinguished Speaker Series. Friday, October 20, 2006 This creepy Italian thriller (dubbed in English) tells the story about a widowed lord who still suffers from the memory of the death of his red-haired wife Evelyn who betrayed him. So the aristocrat lures red-haired prostitutes into his castle to take revenge on his dead wife again and again. But he's obviously not the only whacko in this film, because after he has found a new wife, strange things happen and there's even a gloved killer who murders a couple of people in quite nasty ways. This film blends gothic horror elements (a creepy castle, mysterious events, and an empty coffin, nasty murders, and some surprising twists during the climax).
